Prosopagnosia
Prosopagnosia is also known as face blindness, you cannot recognize people’s faces. It affects people from their initial age and usually a problem for most of their life. It can have a severe impact on everyday life.
What actually happen with peoples suffering from prosopagnosia?
If we talk deep about it, we can say many people with prosopagnosia are not able to recognize their family members, friends, and other peoples they know.
Then what they do to recognize?
They use different strategies to recognize them. For example, by remembering their way of talking, or the way they walk, or by their voice or by the scent of their perfumes, their clothes, etc. But sometimes these strategies may not work as these things can relate to many peoples.
What is the impact of prosopagnosia on the effected person?
A person suffering from prosopagnosia may avoid social gatherings and can further lead to social anxiety disorder. They also have to face problems while beginning relationships or starting their career. Depression is also common in this condition. They also cannot able to recognize people’s age, expressions, or gender of the person. They may not recognize their own faces in the mirror or in pictures. People can also have difficulty navigating places. It may include an inability to process angles or distance, or problems remembering places and landmarks. People with such disorder may embarrassed or seems to be less interested in the person when they fail to recognize the person.
Types of prosopagnosia:
There are two types of prosopagnosia. Developmental prosopagnosia, in this person is suffering from prosopagnosia without having brain damage whereas in acquired prosopagnosia person is having brain damage or head injury.
Treatment:
There is no specific treatment related to prosopagnosia, but researchers are trying to continue their investigation regarding this. But there are many trainers that are trained by the training programs to help improve facial recognition.
